A piece from a world building project in no particular order - Peasant house before the shift
Excerpt from the diary of Elsric Tanner, farmer of the eastern road
The priests in Saint Beatrice say the creatures roam farther each winter, though you would not think so standing here.
The geese still wander the yard at dawn. Smoke still rises from our chimney. Mara hangs garlic beside the shutters every new moon, more from habit than fear now.
The children from the chapel pass by our road some evenings carrying buckets from the well. They walk quickly after sunset.
I cannot blame them.
Last night the dogs barked toward the tree line for near an hour. When I stepped outside with the lantern, I saw nothing save the fog drifting between the pines.
Still, this morning the garlic hanging by the stable door had turned black.
Mara burned it immediately.
She would not tell me why her hands were shaking.
